A Midsummer Night's Dream

By William Shakespeare

5th August - 26th August 2006

SYNOPSIS

The staging of “A Midsummer Nights Dream” marks the Dolphin's first ever foray into the realm of Shakespeare. Set in and around Athens, the play opens with Duke Theseus listening to complaints from Egeus who has promised his daughter Hermia to Demetrius. But Hermia loves Lysander and plans to elope with him to the woods. Meanwhile, Helena is in love with Demetrius.

Also bound for the woods is a group of bungling actors eager to rehearse their new play. They're led by one of the best-loved characters from Shakespeare, Bottom the Weaver.

In the depths of the woods, Oberon and Titania, the King and Queen of the Fairies, are having a major disagreement. When the mischievous Puck, servant of Oberon, gives a love potion to the young lovers – as well as to Titania and Bottom – a wondrous and merry sequence of events is set in motion...

With traditional costumes and original music, Shakespeare's best loved comedy promises a night of fantasy, comedy, colour and fun.
