SYNOPSIS

Tracy, who lives at home with her parents, discovers she is pregnant and is unsure how best to "share the news". She believes Mum Elsie will be stoic and supportive once she gets over the shock, but her dad Idris, who is in a permanent state of hypochondriasis, will need much more delicate handling.

Thank goodness for Gran who lives in the upstairs bedroom and is full of schemes to ease the way, like...getting Tracy's monosyllabic boyfriend Bobby to deal with Idris, after all, he caused it!

Unfortunately, Idris overhears mother and daughter discussing this latest family happening and being so totally self-absorbed, concludes they are talking about him and that he has only a short time to live!

Feeling desperate, Idris confides in the next door neighbour, mischief-maker Maisie Millard, mother of gormless son Jeffrey, who is learning the art of gossip at his mother's apron strings.

Maisie takes advantage of Idris's vulnerable state and declares her long term yearning for him and then proceeds to demonstrate the intensity of her feelings just as wife Elsie returns from a spot of hospital visiting!  Things definitely need to be sorted out!
