What's On For 2010?
Dolphin Theatre is very proud to present the following
line-up of exciting
shows.

Written by Alison Quigan
20th February—13th March 2010
A very Kiwi comedy about a very Kiwi family. Mum
has recently passed on and the close-knit siblings have returned to sort out
the family home. The family are all singers, but like any family, they are
not always in harmony—there are the usual arguments and differences. Join
them for a nostalgic, whimsical and musical family evening. A great night
out for the whole family. By arrangement with Playmarket.
Directed by Adey Ramsel
Adey has had the privilege of working in theatre
ever since leaving drama school in the UK in diverse arenas including
repertory, children’s theatre, classic and fringe theatre. Notable
productions include "Educating Rita", "The Opposite Sex" and "No Sex
Please—We’re British", and the Auckland professional premiere of Roger
Hall’s "Cinderella". Adey has the honour to have received NAPTA awards for
Best Director, Best Play and Best Musical—all in the same year!

Dr Cassie Cassandra is recuperating in a remote holiday home
with her friend Grace to help her. When three visitors arrive who
are not what they seem, Cassie realises she and Grace are facing
immediate mortal danger. No-one can hear their screams and the only
thing that might save them has been dead for 2000 years. A home
invasion thriller that never lets up. Some language may offend. Low
level violence.

12th
June—3rd July 2010
Written by David Tristram
Reminiscing about the past isn’t always a good idea.
When two couples get together for a friendly dinner at home they
little realise that their darkest secrets will emerge.
“The Opposite Sex” is a
non-stop riot of laughter about changing relationships, souring
friendships and sexual peccadilloes that may change their lives forever.
Some language may offend.
Directed by Cynthia Cahill
Cynthia has been acting and directing for Dolphin Theatre since she arrived
in Auckland a few years ago.
She has twice won Best Production at the Dolphin Awards, as well as
Best Actress and Best Character Actress.
Her last production was Ayckbourn’s “A Chorus of Disapproval” in
December 2009, and 2009 has seen her on the Dolphin
Committee for the first time.
Cynthia facilitated the highly successful One Act Play Festival at
Dolphin, and has been an adjudicator for the 2009 show season.

Written by William
Shakespeare

The perfect winter pick-me-up—no-one but Shakespeare can conjure up
the mistaken identities, romantic idylls and comedic misadventures
into such a cornucopia of total enjoyment.
Follow the adventures of Viola, Sebastian, Orsino, Olivia and
the rest in one of the Bard’s most admired and perennially popular
plays, where the characters, the costumes and the doomed-to-failure
plots will have you rolling in the aisles.

Directed by
John Goudge

John has long had a love affair with
Shakespearean plays, and regularly runs workshops in “Deciphering
Shakespeare”. He has played many fantastic Shakespearean roles
including King Richard in “Richard III”, Petruchio in “The Taming of
the Shrew”, Bottom in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and Feste the
Clown in “Twelfth Night”. John has directed more than a dozen
productions including large cast pantomime (“Beauty and the Beast”),
small cast comedy (“Educating Rita”) and a bit of Kiwi drama (“The
Bach”).

18th September—9th October 2010
Written by Tennessee Williams
We
are proud to announce one of Tennessee Williams’ most moving and wistful
plays. An autocratic mother, a
lonely daughter and a disenchanted son, held together by the ties that bind
too tightly until a newcomer appears and with him, perhaps, an escape for
them all. A 20th Century
classic, that will stay with you for a long time.
Directed by Sian Davis
Sian
previously directed “Joyful and Triumphant” at Dolphin in 2006.
She is mainly interested in promoting New Zealand
plays, but is also keen to explore classical, meaningful works from
overseas. Previous forays into
something enduring include “Hedda Gabler”, “The Cherry Orchard”, “Ghosts”,
“Twelfth Night”, “Wit” and most recently “Doubt” in 2009 for Ellerslie
Theatre Company.

13th November—4th December 2010
Written by Alan Ayckbourn
Ayckbourn’s back with one of his funniest!
At a weekly meeting of amateur writers you meet some of the oddest
characters—and when the plot takes an unexpected twist we are plunged into a
mayhem of merriment and madness.
With customary wit and talent (and a very large walnut) your
favourite playwright again proves that he is a master at creating life-like
characters and putting them into extraordinary situations.
Directed by Syd Mannion
Syd
has been a familiar face both on and off stage in
Auckland
theatre for many years. As an
actor and director he has been involved in a wide range of productions that
include comedy, drama, multimedia, music and dance.
Among his directing credits are “Shadowlands”, “Terra Nova”, “The
Woman in Black” (all at Dolphin Theatre), “Shakers and Bouncers” (Theatre
Works/ Titirangi Theatre) and “Serial Killers” (Titirangi Theatre).
He has also had numerous roles in television, plus short and feature
length films.
